Welcome to the Ontario Teachers’ Federation’s Parent Engagement website.
Since school represents one of the most influential parts of young peoples’ lives outside of the home, it stands to reason that teachers, educators, parents and guardians should work in concert toward a shared goal – the best interests of students. Please note that whenever the term “parent” appears alone, it also implies “guardians” and “teacher” is used to signify “educator”, too.

This site is designed to support teachers and educators in working with parents and guardians. This resource is, however, not a recipe book. No single resource can either pretend to capture every nuance of parent-teacher relationships or hope to address every possible circumstance or issue.

This resource was made possible by funding from the Ontario Ministry of Education and with the assistance of the four Affiliates of the Ontario Teachers’ Federation: l’Association des enseignantes et des enseignants franco-ontariens (AEFO); the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO); the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA); and, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF).
